When relationships change

If you get married, share the good news with AFTRA H&R. You may add your new spouse to the AFTRA Health Plan even before the beginning of your next coverage period. But you must notify AFTRA H&R in writing and submit a copy of the recorded marriage certificate within 30 days of the event to take advantage of this right.

Also, participants who pay to cover a spouse under family coverage (or individual coverage with the buy-up option) and become divorced must notify AFTRA H&R in writing and submit a copy of the judgment for Dissolution of Marriage within 60 days of the event being finalized. These life events result in a loss of coverage for the ex-spouses (and possibly other dependents based upon the nature of the relationship and terms of the settlement). In the event of a divorce or legal separation, you may also want to consider designating another beneficiary for the life insurance benefit* included with the AFTRA Health Plan.

For any life event that could affect your coverage, you must notify AFTRA H&R in writing. Please send this notification, along with supporting documentation, to the address below:
