If you become disabled

Print

If you are disabled at the time that health coverage ends under the Individual or Family Health Plans, your coverage and/or the coverage of any dependents may be extended under the same terms as before you became disabled, as long as you continue to pay the necessary premium. A person is considered disabled if he or she can no longer engage in their regular occupation or employment. If an enrolled participant or a dependent is disabled at the time coverage is due to end, you should inform AFTRA H&R. If you are a disabled participant, an extension of health coverage for you and any dependents may continue for up to 24 months, but coverage will end if you qualify for other coverage (regardless of whether or not you actually enroll in the other coverage) or if you are no longer disabled.

Also note that enrolled participants involved in an accident may be eligible for benefits under the accidental death and dismemberment coverage that is part of the group insurance policy issued by Aetna for AFTRA Health Plan participants. All claims should be submitted in writing to AFTRA H&R within 90 days of the accident, or as soon as reasonably possible.
